2019 is going to be your year! I know it, because it’s gonna be mine too! Are you still struggling to find a resolution? Well I have one for you! If you have ever had even an inkling to do a pinup styled shoot, NOW is the time to do it!
Are you suddenly saying to yourself, oh I could never do that? I get it. I had those thoughts too in the beginning. Don’t let that kind of talk in your head! ANYONE can be a pinup. A quick search on Instagram will show you thousands of models in LITERALLy every shape and size. We are a super diverse group of ladies, AND the community is literally the most accepting and lovely group of people I have ever met!
I’m pretty sure my next thought in the process was: “But I wouldn’t want to show anyone this! Who wants to see me prancing around in my underwear??” The beauty of this is your don’t have to! Yes, I am a model, so I am putting my images out there. However my very first pinup-styled session was a boudoir shoot that I did as a gift to my deployed hubby in 2012. You will not find most of those images ever in my rotation. I prefer most of my modeling shoots fully clothed and with cheeky little stocking flashes. This can LITERALLY be whatever you want it to be. Comfortable being almost naked? Go for it! More power to you! Think your mom bod needs to be covered? Dude… that is totally fine too!
“But where do I even start?” Now that question can be a little tricky. Luckily, I have an answer for this too. There are a bunch of studios all over the country that have hair and makeup (and sometimes even wardrobe!) built right in! Most major cities have one like this; However, if you are more of a DIY-er, Pinterest is literally loaded with tutorials on how to do the hair and makeup yourself! It takes some practice, but if I (being TOTALLY hair illiterate) can make it work YOU CAN TOO.
This is the real reason I am encouraging you to get in front of the camera though: It is EMPOWERING. I’m not going to go into my full long story about how Pinup became my love, but I will give you the condensed version. After I had my son, I was wrecked with Postpartum Depression. I was having something of an identity crisis. My husband was deployed. And I found the Capital City Dolls. If you want to learn more about the organization that made me feel like a real woman again, click HERE.
When I did my first shoot, I felt it. I was still a person in here. I could be SO MUCH more then “just mom.” I could be confident and feel beautiful and sexy and there was NOTHING wrong with it! It is a feeling that I want to share with all of my unsure readers here. If you don’t like it, you never have to do it again. BUT if you do, it may help you find a little piece of yourself you didn’t realize you were missing. ❤
Let yourself take a chance! YOU are totally worth betting on EVERY TIME.
Love and Cheers!
