6 Makeup Products I can’t do Pinup Without

Disclaimer: I am not a professional makeup artist by any means. I learned how to do makeup in high school when I was in drama club. I wore it way too thick for way too long. I own that. However, as I have gotten older I do believe I have gotten better. At least I have tried enough different products in my pinup/theatre/cosplay/ballroom dancing life that I have definitely developed some favorites.

So Here are the 6 Products that I ALWAYS keep in my Pinup toolkit.

1. JAPONESQUE® Luminous Foundation

All good makeup begins with a good foundation right? This foundation is LITERALLY my favorite foundation I have ever worn. It blends so beautifully into my natural skin color (and comes in 10 different shades to boot!) and makes my skin look smooth and uniform. Its so light that it feels like I’m not even wearing anything and it doesn’t rub off quickly! All so important! It’s an awesome base for all of my looks, no matter what I’m trying to create!

I got my first one at Ulta, but it is also available on Amazon and a few other retailers! It’s also on my to do list to try the Radiance Primer from this line!

2. Duo Striplash Adhesive

This one is leftover from my ballroom competition days. I have tried all different kinds of lashes and found that most of the time, any lashes will do. However, you HAVE to use a good glue to stick them on. Duo is the best of the best! I don’t even bother with the self-adhesive or the ones that come with the lashes at all anymore.

One of the best things about this brand is that it is super easy to get. It is available pretty much everywhere! Click here to check it out.

3. Maybelline® Eye Studio® Master Precise™ Eyeliner

I made the switch over to liquid eyeliner about a year or so ago, and let me tell you, the first few months it was more mess than anything. I discovered this little gem about 5 or 6 months ago an it has changed my outlook all together! It is so easy to draw cat eyes with this brush tip! That is probably because it doesn’t change shape like the other ones I have tried! It is also long lasting; I can apply it once and not worry about it fade or smudging too badly over the course of a long shoot! Seriously can’t recommend this one enough!

I believe I picked this one up at Target, but I haven’t looked for it other places, so I can’t speak to its ease of availability.

4. Maybelline New You Fit Me Blush

I stumbled upon this blush totally by accident. I had forgotten part of my makeup kit while out of town and was needed to do my Ariel cosplay justice. I bought this on a whim because it looked like it would be the right color for the princess. Now… I won’t do makeup without it. It is smooth and light, and blends into my skin tone for a highlight that looks natural. It blends in super nice without looking fake and photographs really nice! I use the number 20 Mauve color, but it does come in a multitude of shades that would fit everyone!

I got mine at Walmart, but click here to see it on the Maybelline site.

5.Rimmel Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick by Kate Moss

I have used this lipstick for a while now and have the brand in a few different colors because I like it so much. This one in particular is 06, which I use for more every day and looks that don’t call for the straight up bright red. I also use the bright red for my retro looks (01 obviously), and the dark blood red (I believe my number is 104) for the more gothic-y looks. I love the body of the color and the matte finish of them. My one complainant is that you have to reapply every so often, but as long as you remember to bring it with you, you have bold, vibrant color and a quality lipstick that doesn’t get dry on you.

The bad news here is that it looks like it is starting to be phased out. So if it interests you, try this link.

6. Revlon PhotoReady Finisher Pressed Powder Translucent

I love this finisher! It is translucent so it doesn’t change the colors of your makeup, but takes away the shine of the face and sets your makeup. It is the very last thing I do before a shoot and it always makes me feel like my look is completed. Again it is not heavy, and it seems like it really does help my makeup stay picture perfect for longer. This was another purchase I made to help with cosplay makeup (this time trying to find something to make my Freddy Krueger burns stay perfectly… well gross) but it is perfect for everyday use!

I think I also got this at Walmart, but you can check it out here

Find a product out there that you love?  Looking for something to fill your pinup kit? Have something you think I should try? I’m excited to hear! Tell me or ask me about it in the comments!

Love and Cheers!

  1. I am a fan of the Duo glue as well for the lashes! I do a lot of make-up for my cosplay/costume stuff. One thing I would recommend is checking out LipSense for the lipstick. I love it. It doesn’t come off! (for real) And you can really draw your lips on with it so it’s perfect for pin-up. There’s a color called blu-red that’s really popular for that classic red lip. And you can use a matte or shiny gloss on top. I alway eat my lipstick off in about 10 seconds so this stuff saves me lol. If you get it from a regular seller it is around $20 but I always find it on eBay for $10 or under 🙂
